Nevado de Tolima

Post by Voshkm »

Anyone have information on climbing El nevado de Tolima in Colombia, I think preferably from the west side or Campamento Arrenitas side the Shimmer route.
any information would be greatly appreciated, particularly a GPS track from either Ibague or valle de Cocura to the heliopad or Arrenitas and then to the summit.
or any other route up el Nevado de Tolima...

I climbed it in 1998, but the route we used is now closed. Have you checked the summitpost page?

Although I was the trip leader in 1998 and we had no guides, they are required by the National Park now. In that case you shouldn't need a gpx track, but I can see why you'd still want one.

I'd check Exploreshare for guides.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

indeed it is a requirement to have a Guide. Oh well. Cant say i would like a guide nor that it is clearly apparent in the park regulations, some digging is required. thanks Scott, it has been some time since we last spoke, I hope the family is well and the health is permitting hiking and climbing. we arent getting any younger.
