Mi-July/August trip, Front/Sawatch, snow gear?

Post by sherby »

Hi, coming for a 13/14ers trip this summer, we're used to hiking in the northeast and we have a full range of snow/ice gear, but we're wondering what should we bring with us. We'll be in Denver July 17th and we'll leave around August 5th. For this first trip, we'll focus our efforts in the front range / mosquito / sawatch.

Almost all standard routes in the ranges you mentioned should be passable without serious snow gear by then. At most, maybe some spikes but doubtful. There should be plenty of peak conditions reports on this site to keep an eye on as it gets closer to your arrival.

I meant to post this in "Gear, Climbing Prep, Safety, etc." it can be moved by a mod.

I'm seeing a lot of snow in the reports, but we still have 2 more weeks, we could bring everything from micro-spikes to full crampons, but I'm trying to not fill up the car with unnecessary gear.
