Great points guys, I appreciate the information and it's even better coming from people who have winter experience and a more intimate knowledge of mountain terrain.

Not saying you are or aren't ready, just wanted you to have the best info. Your climbing resume certainly garners some respect from me. I would love to climb on Yosemite's granite some day. If you do go, be careful and have fun 8)

Just for the sake of clarity....my earlier post that refered to your experience level was based solely on the four 14ers that appear on your profile as posted here. No denigration of your ability was intended.

No problem Mike, I see your point and absolutely agree - it is likely my ambitions are set a bit high. I like to challenge myself. You guys are all completely righteous to show concern over my suggestion to attempt the W ridge in winter...hell I haven't even summited a 14er in winter, ever. Maybe the standard route will be enough of a challenge.

No offense taken. Again, thanks for the concerns, straightforward discussion and valuable insights from all. I will assess the conditions and make a decision on the day of the climb.

Best!

Quandary getting hammered this week, since Friday it has received somewhere between 24 and 52" of snow, not looking good for the west ridge at this point! Looks like some good ski weather though!

Great news for the ski portion of my trip...looks like the standard route is the way to go, especially if more snow falls between now and mid January.

Summit County got about 2 feet of snow from that storm according to CAIC. Considerable rating, west wind building slabs on north to east to south slopes above treeline. Triggering an avy is very likely!
