Sneffels Area Conditions

Post by I Man »

Has anyone been around Sneffels area lately or the surrounding basins? Looking to head there this weekend. Last I hear is thigh to waist deep snow below tree outside Lake City. Any beta is appreciated, thanks!

Hiked Sneffels the day after Thanksgiving and we easily made it to the outhouse TH with 4WD. Some drifts on the road to the upper TH prevent cars from getting up there, but by foot the deep snow is easily avoidable. Main slope on the standard route is mostly clear, and some avoidable snow in the upper gully. There was snow around the notch to exit the gully, but still passable with a little extra care. Have some photos if you'd like more beta, but it's pretty clear up there.

Where in Lake City area is it that deep? I was just there over Thanksgiving weekend, and definitely didn't find anything that deep. Other than that, don't know much about Sneffels area.

Nice pano. Clearly shows conditions. Thanks!

Matt, as you probably already know, avy rose remains green top to bottom as of today.

Yea, yea...I've concluded that I read the text wrong.

Thanks for the info everyone, I think we've decided to make the long pilgrimage to Telluride. \:D/
