! CAIC MAP Display !

Post by BillMiddlebrook » Tue Dec 22, 2020 9:55 am

As mentioned in the other avy thread, I've been working on a way to show the CAIC avy map on the home page. I've set it up so we can each decide if and when the CAIC map shows up on the home page by setting the appropriate level in DISPLAY SETTINGS. And "Never" is an option.

By default, I have it set so the map will come up for everyone when an avy level in the state gets to "HIGH" or "EXTREME," otherwise it will show up if it hits your desired level in Display Settings.

Display Settings can always be found when in the non-forum sections of the site by going to the PROFILE->DISPLAY SETTINGS option on the upper right of the screen when you hover the mouse over your username.

This map will show up, with links to the CAIC site/zones:

Thanks for your continued efforts to add functionality to the site Bill. Very nice feature.

Hah, I was literally thinking about this yesterday--"Bill could add the CAIC map since it says its able to be embedded..."

I've manually embedded it on previous occasions when the level was high (4) or extreme (5) but now it will happen automatically, even when the user is not logged into the site.

This is awesome Bill, and the customization is great! I have mine set to Always, so I can just view it straight from here every morning!

Thanks

I may add a few more options (like "ALL GREEN" or maybe range-specific) after I've thought about it for a bit.

Another excellent feature, thanks Bill!

Is there any way to also show the overlay on the main map page or is the CAIC embeddable map the only way? In addition to the front page map it would be useful to have a larger version of the overlay coupled with other site features such as zoom, peak toggles, layers, etc., if that's possible.

Sorry to be the skunk at the garden party:

This isn't showing up on cell phones unless I select the 'display as desktop' option on my phone. To the extent thata lot of people check this site on a mobile web device is it possible to have the display appear on mobile version? If the point is to make people aware of dangerous conditions wouldn't a forced notification on a cell phone when things get to red level, high, be more effective than an optional notification on a desktop only version?
