Drinking water along the La Plata Peak trail from the North

Post by ColoGary »

I know Lake Creek and its south and north forks are not suitable for drinking water because of heavy metal content from mining. Does anyone know if the stream paralleling the La Plata Peak trail from the North is okay with filter or tablets? Plan was to hike in about two miles and camp near the stream before the trail diverges, then summit the next morning. Had heard the bad water is just at the base of the mountain, and further up, where there has been little mining might be okay. Does anyone have information? Thanks!
