For me it was Kit Carson. I finally summitted the third time from Willow Lake (after twice turning around at Challenger), and also turned back twice on the South Colony Lakes side, plus didn't even go beyond the Humboldt saddle another time. So 5 failed attempts for me also...

Longs Peak.

July 99 made it to the boulderfield and got stormed off.

Sept 00 peak closed to non-technical guys like me before I got to CO

Sept 01 same as above (by two days)

Sept 02 damn snow yet again

August 04 Snowed the day before my planned climb and closed it out again

Sept. 12, 2005. Success!

wow, that's got to be a little demoralizing and weigh heavy on your mind since both SAR missions ended badly...glad you finally summited though.

I'm noticing a bit of a theme here.....Long's Peak.

That was my nemesis. I tried it 3 times in 1998 and 3 times in 1999 before making the summit. Horrible weather stopped us each time. When I finally made the summit, it was in a thick fog/mist. Never saw the view from the top.

You friggin' weenies.

My nemesis mountain sears it's image in my mind like a wal-mart on fire.

It obsesses me like a Paris Hilton porn video. Like a Michael Jackson freak-alike contest. Like a barry bonds steroid soaked, home-run sham fest! I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY MIND!!

It's not a 14er. It's a hill in my back yard. I've climbed it a thousand times. But the g*ddamn thing is a nemesis. It won't let me go. There are things worse than not climbing to a summit. There are rotten summits, sour summits.

Unwholesome summits.

Summits which cannot be conquered or appeased. Summit which drive climber insane. At a young age.....

Tabeguache, because of a good hard July thundersnow on top of Shavano last year. That's OK though because it gives me a good excuse to get it from the Brown's watershed later this summer. I've read that hike sucks, but at least it will be new.

Maroon Peak

Postby rastro » Sun Jul 29, 2007 5:27 pm

Attempted Maroon by myself Sept. '06 and had the mountain to myself. Got past bent tree, headed up the slope and I must have been up around 12,000-12,500 and got way off route. Ended up in some whack gully and faced fear. By then it was 11:00am, and the weather moved in. Pretty scary, actually. I'm ready to conquer the beast; I just need some help with route finding.

I've never really had any problems with weather before, but I think that La Plata is my nemesis peak. I just have a feeling... :-k

Oh my god.... For me it was Bierstadt. First time was 3 years ago and we didnt see the trail head and ended up summiting Squaretop thinking it was Bierstadt. We noticed the trail head when we got down to the summit. Oh were we pissed off.

Second time was the same crew a month later but my friends crappy girl friend got sick half way up and we had to turn around.

Third time, same crew, a year later, got booted because of weather about 200 yrds from the summit.

Fourth time, me alone, this year, got it and continued on to Evans via Sawtooth.

Took me long enough!

For me it was Massive. It took 3 tries (Third time was the charm). When I finally summited, it was the longest day of my life. Whenever I have friends ask me if I want to climb it with them it does not take me long to say no (and I've summited a few more than once). Hopefully it is my one and only nemesis peak!
