summit stalkers

Post by d_baker »

Am I the only one that takes pictures of summit registers?
This one is particularly disturbing due to the stalking nature of it....unless Steve is ok with that. ;)

I’ve seen some funny ones calling people out. I’m sure I have the photos somewhere

I do this sometimes as well. It's fun to see who gets around. Usually, it's the same cast of characters.

But not many more names, I'm thinking. Lots of interesting traffic on an unnamed 13er.

Quite the cast of luminaries of the .com and just on those two pages. (in no particular order)

1) The Roaches
2) Furthermomre
3) Traveling Matt
4) Rijaca
5) Del Sur
6) Alyson Kirk
7) Layne Bracy
8) Bergsteigen
9) Paula
10) Chicago Transplant (oops)
11) Mennoguy + Buddy Ben
12) Mark Schmalz
13) Dick Derkase

I'm sure there are more on there...that was a quick skim.

Funny how I can tell what peak that was just by my entry... UN 13460 in the Sawatch.

I don't take many pictures of the registers, but I see the same names all the time. Sometimes just missing someone from the forum by a day that I have never met. Usually if I take a register pic its of the first page for a really old one to capture the placement date. I have seen a couple from the 50s and 60s and even one from the 40s!

I cringe internally at any mention of a Sawatch 13er outside of a certain wilderness area.

This one has been around with some impressive names, including by the Briggs duo trying to do a full range traverse.

Once, I hit a peak about a week after a few 14ers members. One group had been following another group and they didn't get along. That group drew an arrow to the previous climber and wrote "she's a bitch." It was probably the most petty things I've seen on a summit. Imagine a family getting up there enjoying themselves and proud, only to see petty internet drama spilling over onto a register.

I loved finding that Peak E register, my mom was only 2 weeks old when it was placed. 8)

This thread's fun! Keep 'em coming. I've seen a lot of really funny ones over the years, but would need to dig them out.
I've run in to the Roach a couple times in registers:
This is from atop 13123, now called "Woods Peak"across from El Diente. I was feeling really peaced out.

This was what sufficed as a register on Hualapai Peak, the Mohave County (AZ) highpoint on 4/23/2009.

Talk about improvising! That's dedication.
I may randomly find these things, but I'm not so obsessed as to know when they were married.

You can add Mennoguy (remember when we met him on Mosquito Pass?) + buddy Ben, as well as 13er finisher Mark Schmalz.
