This was a route I was considering for the gathering as well but don’t mind trying to get over cinnamon and Stoney.
Kiefer- When we ran into you on the Cataract trail a few years ago that is exactly what we were doing. Seems that with all the driving over passes you'd be unlikely to save much if anything with the drive and this was a pretty enjoyable hike. I don't have a GPX track of our hike but could sketch it out over a map or post some photos if you'd like.
The gpx track I have on Topo! (pulled from mapmyfitness track) shows 18 miles w/6350' gain.
And I agree with Mike, it's a good day and decent route. I actually did it in 2020, not '19 like I previously wrote, not that it matters. ;)
That's awesome Darin. I'd agree, that's a good day but doable. Long days are sometimes the best.
I'm thinking that's a plan! 😁

It looks like some weather might be moving in for the gathering. Its isn't a major storm predicted, but inclement weather is always something to prepare for in October.
I'm slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

I'm still not sure if I'm going, but if I do, this would be my target.

Snow doesn’t look like much accumulation so far. Hopefully it stays that way!

My draft itinerary in case anyone wants to team up:

Thurs night - drive at least partway down
Fri - Poles from Cataract
Sat - Gudy group of 4 from Cooper Creek
Sun - Whitecross via Grizzly Gulch before heading home

Is there any beta on hitting those unnamed 13-8s from Mill Creek specifically?
Because neither the dot com here or Roach's books describe routes from Mill Creek?

The other nearby trailheads is another thing.

They can be accessed from across the road, a little bit to the E from the campground. Look at the E branch of the Bent Creek, and there's a ridge there that one can go up. I did them that way in April of 2011.

Looks like a friend and I will be heading down Thursday, planning to hit the 4 cents Fri-Sat-Sun conditions/legs permitting. Weather looks a tad dodgy (Thursday/Friday particularly) but not horrible at the moment, so fingers crossed!

Is the water still turned on at the campground this time of the year? I know some places shut the water off by now, if it's off it'd be good to know in advance.

I assume there's usually some spot that becomes a defacto gathering spot/nightly party zone? Curious where that might be? We have some biggish days planned so will be hitting the hay early I suspect, but would love to meet some people/compare notes!

Bring water.
One of the campsites will be the main gather place. It is one that is next to the outhouse. It's on the west side of the CG, can't remember the number.

I’ve been holding off on committing to this until I knew what the weather was going to be. It does not look perfect, but good enough to go. The days prior to the trip may see some snow falling on the high peaks.

I plan to head down Thursday afternoon and set up camp. Friday morning, I hope to take on Half Peak from Cataract Gulch TH. This leaves Friday and Saturday nights to feel froggy.

I have some seasoned wood that I’ll be bringing for a campfire.

Looking forward to seeing everybody.

Brad, I might be up for the Gudy Group. Keeping it on the radar for sure!
