RIP Eric Huynh
My very good friend Eric Huynh died on August 26th at El Dorado State Park while climbing with a buddy. Their belay system failed, and when Erics buddy fell it pulled Eric down also. Eric was only 34.
He was a very good person and friend.
He was a very skilled hiker and backpacker. He had climbed summits all over the world including Aconcagua, and had just started on the 14ers and 13ers in Colorado. Eric and I did 20 of the high peaks together, including the Maroon Bells traverse and El Diente-Wilson traverse. We had our Mt Elbrus plans get covid canceled for two years. But we had hiked a lot of lesser peaks and tore up many a ski run together also. He was working on improving his climbing so he could get Sunlight Spire, and the day he died we were texting about doing Ellingwood ridge.
He had a 14ers account, but wasn't very active on here. But I know some of you were lucky enough to meet him hiking or climbing. A super friendly and enthusiastic Asian guy on a mountain is not a common sight in Colorado. He really enjoyed glissading, and I'm sure many of you heard his happy yells echoing in the mountains if there was enough snow. A very lucky group we ran into once got to help me bandage his butt after a glissading mishap. He was generous and kind, and was always offering to share what he had, or to offer a spot or a hand up on difficult terrain.
He was one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of calling friend. He will be missed.

Rest In Peace Eric, you seemed like a great young man, many of us would look up to. I hope you’re playing in the Himalayas by now. Gone too soon…

Brian so sorry to hear about Eric, I never got to meet him but I do remember the story you told about his cut from sliding down in the snow. My condolences to his family and friends.

Re: RIP Eric Huynh
Very well put Trotter! I only ever "met" Eric through you (we were friends on FB, hadn't met in real life yet though). We had discussed getting out on a scramble or peak ski a few times - nothing as solid as some of the trips you guys had lined up though. He would message me with questions on routes & I'd gladly give what advice I could. I know how much you (and many other close family & friends) must be hurting right now. Remember the good times & continue to get up these mountains he loved so very much. It will honor his spirit & help keep your head in the right spot. You know I'm here to talk or hike almost any week. Rest in peace Eric.

Rest in peace Eric. I'm glad he had a great life in the mountains and condolences to his friends and family. Those photos seem hauntingly sad in context but at the same time shows that he was having a good time. Never forget the memories.
Be the best you that you can be.

I hate to hear of another good young person who appears to have been taken before his time. My deepest condolences to you , his friends, and his family.
