9/11
It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since the terrorist attacks downtown.
I remember like it was yesterday what I witnessed, the sounds, the smell, the suddenly empty city streets, the anger.
As we approach the anniversary this weekend, let us not forget those who died that day, and all the folks who
were impacted from those events, FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority, the many service men and women in duty or retired and any of the support
personnel.
At the office every year we have a moment of silence for the colleagues and friends we lost.
If you're climbing this weekend, take a moment to do the same and be thankful for where you are and
think about the freedom we all enjoy that allows us to climb such mountains.
Be safe

Re: 9/11
It is a peculiar to me we choose to remember those lost through acts of violence perpetrated by members of one group against another more than people lost through accidents, disease, cancer, or starvation. I'm sure the people killed on the 11th of Sept were loved by family and friends. Not sure why the loss of those people deserves more remembrance than the 2,800 people lost every day to HIV/AIDS, the 25,000 (mostly children) every day who die from poverty and starvation, etc.
My condolences to those who have recently lost loved ones, and those suffering grief which will not abate.

+1
Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

People lost in other ways are remembered too, on a more personal level - by family, friends, colleagues...Ptglhs wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 12:04 am It is a peculiar to me we choose to remember those lost through acts of violence perpetrated by members of one group against another more than people lost through accidents, disease, cancer, or starvation. 9/11 was just a sudden, shocking taking of thousands of lives that touched Americans across the country to the core and had a profound impact on geopolitics and the American way of life. It deserves a nationwide remembrance as a result.
Thanks for that post nyker.

Re: 9/11
I'll tell you what I'll be thinking about and memorializing on 9/11 - the hundreds of thousands of innocents who died as a result of our nation's overreaction to 9/11. 9/11 wrecked this nation; not the incident itself but the overreaction.
And not that it matters, but to forestall a certain type of troll response, I was there - a block away, though 15 minutes earlier I was in one of the subway stations under the towers.

Larry, we can mourn them all, can we not? I felt shock and awe on 9/11. When the official “Shock and Awe” took place in ‘03, I was just deeply saddened.
