North Maroon conditions

Post by D_Price »

Heading to do North Maroon via the NE Ridge route August 29. An earlier TR from July had a photo of quite a bit of water in the riverbed on the trail, is it dry or would it require some alternative footwear to cross? Also, what has been the impact on visibility from the recent fires?

I crossed the creek yesterday without much trouble on the way down from the traverse. I was moving quickly, so I took a splash-step in a shallow section of the creek (shallow enough that it didn't wet the mesh on my approach shoes), but I'll bet I could have found a drier line with a little thought. That being said, the creek did look similar in volume to the pic from the 7/23 TR.

As for visibility, it was better than expected yesterday (perfect by late afternoon) but that doesn't say much about how things will look at the end of the month. Check the forecast as your trip gets closer: https://hwp-viz.gsd.esrl.noaa.gov/smoke/index.html#

Climbed today, creek was low and no problem to cross, smoke was minimal today as well but that changes frequently
