Sticky but breathable gloves

Post by Mitsugi »

Hi guys. I want some sticky gloves to wear on really rough scrambles that will me to sort of “stick to” the rocks. Giving more trip and control and ultimately safety. But I also don’t want my hands to get sweaty.

Can anybody recommend pretty please?

Nobody climbs 14ers anymore, they’re too crowded.

I've been a big fan of baseball batters gloves tbh. They breathe really well and ive found them to be plenty sticky.

That said these days i find myself leaving them at home, i just feel the rock a little better bare handed

Agree, unless very cold, I prefer no gloves on more technical sections for better feel.

I bought a pair of these that I carry in my pack usually, but find myself rarely using them. They hold up really well and are plenty grippy (especially for the price), but when it gets cold I don't like them because they let too much air in, and for the limited scrambles I've done, they seem superfluous.

I've never found that any glove is as good as bare.
In the cold, sure, but no glove enhances your grip.
You've got to raw dawg those rocks.

I wear head gloves from costco. Probably makes my grip worse, but protects my delicate keyboard fingers.

I got a couple pair of these for like $5 at McGuckins (Boulder), which I use for Flatirons enduros. I climb anything 4th class up to 5.2ish in them to protect my fingers from abrasion during long linkups. Also great for bushwhacking. They are incredibly durable and also quite "sticky" for climbing. Not super warm, but you could wear a liner.

I've had success with Mechanix gloves. They are good enough for Navy Seals (at least as portrayed in movies).

I bought a pair of these but in the half finger version. Protects my palm but allows me to still grip well with my fingers. The back breathes well.
