Lots of people posting "trip reports" on the proverbial Mt. Cleanse they've never bothered to hike - worriesome.
Chrismjx wanted feedback on cleanses from people with personal experience. There are many types -I'm going to assume he's talking about a colon cleanse.
One reason for this cleanse is to prevent/address a medical issue called "fecal impaction." It ranges from mild build-up that causes constipation and prevents one from absorbing their nutrients to a debilitating condition that could require surgery in the acute sense. The primary ingredients in the cleanse I did are psyllium, aloe vera and accompanying probiotics. I'd love to see some studies that show positive benefits from cleanses, I certainly couldn't find any. Further, it would take a dissertations worth of effort to scan the available literature to actually arrive at a scientific opinion. So in the absence of that available time, I'll just stick with what the Mayo Clinic

The mayo article refers to "diets"- this is not a diet. I see the kind of spepticism they offer here on a lot of sites. I offer the articles above. I have seen much more in the way of testimony, but it appears you're looking for journal articles. There is no journal article on this product speficically, only articles on the identifiable constituents of the product (psyllium, aloe, etc.) I would consider that proof. I'd consider my own experience/evidence as proof, but that's just me (and I hardly think the kind folks on this forum would appreciate that.) Also I gave my cat psyllium when he was two months old when had blood in his stools (just got him from the humane society.) After a couple of days, he passed some really weird rubbery turd and had no more issues.

This cleanse includes probiotics specifically for that reason. Also the term "flush" probably isn't quite accurate here. It's more of a gentle slough.
A few questions from a skeptic. 1) is it possible that the weird stuff that you were crapping out was just the weird stuff you purchased and were eating ? I would say probably. 2) Is it possible that you felt great after the cleanse because you felt so crappy (excuse the pun) while you were doing it? I would say probably. 3) If our intestine is so covered in muck and so desperately in need of a month long cleanse process why is it that the medications given my an MD prior to a colonoscopy can do the same thing overnight? Take a look at video footage of a colonoscopy, I don't see any "mucoid plaque" anywhere.
I can appreciate that notion. Starting with the first two - no. No need to be polite here - I'll provide the insight: The psyllium tends to break up upon exit. The lengthy and unsightly stuff that I can only desribe as what looks like rubbery blobs and dark dehydrated bark (of various length) in the distinct shape of the folds of the intestine do not. The pictures you will see on the web out there tell it like it is. The olfactory experience doesn't lie, either! There were days on this cleanse where I'd actually feel uncomfortable tugs on my gut and have headaches. The next day, the evidence was profoundly there as to why, and the headache was gone. That didn't happen every day, though. As for colonscopies, some of the testimonials I read on the site (when they did have them) mentioned passing things that the colonscopy never caught. My dad had several colonscopies, and my understanding is that the prep is primarily laxitive (magnesium sulfate) based. Sure, this will "wash" things out pretty well, but how can it slough off the stuff that is stuck? If just the liquid sufficed for any kind of cleansing action, then we could all clean our teeth by simply swishing some stuff around and scrap the toothbrush. The benefit of the bulking agent (psyllium and aloe) is 1. its bulk helps to mechanically slough off stuff as it passes 2. it encourages the peristalsis which gets your intestines moving to pass the stuff and 3. it lubricates the garbage to make it amenable to moving in the first place.
I ate healthy for the past 20 years. I tried this method, and it relieved some digestive issues but also flattened my gut quite a bit. I cannot say enough good things about it. If you want a good prep now for the summer months ahead, I'd say give it a shot. If your experience is like mine, you'll be happily carrying less weight up the mountain.
