Kenosha pass was getting close to peak, still about a third of trees were green. Didn't stop 7000000 tourists from being there, or stopping on the road to look at a moose.

Re: 2022 Leaf Peeping
Drove around the state this past weekend.
Saturday- 60-70 % in the region around Silverton. Should peak in this week. Looking north from Red Mountain Pass, it looks like around 60 %, still some green, but a nice mix of yellows and green, and a few reddish outliers.
Sunday- headed over to Summit and Park Counties. It's peaking south of Breck and over Hoosier Pass in Park County, and also around 60 % between I-70 and Breck. Kite Lake road was at peak.
Overall, the colors are muted this year, with little of the brilliance, and it seems to go rapidly to brown. Some groves have lost all their leaves already.

I hiked Abyss on 9/24 and again last night on 9/26- some of the most brilliant stands Saturday were brown already. I have to imagine this weekend will be past peak for most of the area.Corey17 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 6:23 pm Hiked the Abyss trail today - that trail specifically is nearing peak. The aspens over the trail are brilliant, the ones alongside the hills still have a few more days.
Guanella pass needs a few more days, as does the 285 corridor. Some trees around Bailey seemed to be going straight to brown

Re: 2022 Leaf Peeping
Aspens were great around West Chicago Creek (near Idaho Springs) yesterday.
I drove Squaw Pass both on Saturday and yesterday (Monday) and I couldn't believe how fast the leaves had changed in only two days.
Saturday they had only started changing and Monday they were looking way further along.

Re: 2022 Leaf Peeping
Just hiked West Elk and then drove through Kebler pass this morning. Leaves are at least a week behind schedule. Kebler pass is huge, so there are a few yellow aspens, but there are big stretches when aspens haven't even started turning yet (on the Somerset side). 2 more weeks of leaf peeping at least!

Re: 2022 Leaf Peeping
The Bells were at peak today (or maybe a few days before). Peaks were covered in a blanket of snow and a steady rain most of this morning was doing a number. They won't last much longer. Indy Pass/Twin Lakes still looked good, but on its way out for sure!

Ouray and Crystal Lake were peak for sure. Telluride and Dallas Divide will need another weekish, this as of Saturday(Oct 1st). I also swung by and stopped at Maroon Lake yesterday(Oct 2nd) and it's close to peak, as mentioned, probably within a few days.

Re: 2022 Leaf Peeping
Made a semi-big tour today (Oct 3). McClure Pass a mix of green and yellow on the north side, all green just over the top on the south side. Kebler green on the west side as mentioned above, a mix further up. Ohio Pass lots of yellow. I'd think all of these places would be good through the weekend.
McClure Pass, and a few trees on Kebler, I think that's Marcellina you can see in the background.
