Can you drive to Navajo Lake?

Post by BlazerBuddy »

I am planning a trip to climb Mt. Sneffels, Wetterhorn Peak, and Mt. Wilson. I am confused about the Mt. Wilson route, it says 7 miles from Navajo Lake to Mount Wilson. Can you drive to Navajo Lake and start hiking or is a Navajo lake just a scenery stop?

North slopes? On the Wilson peak page, it says Southwest ridge. What is the average time to complete Mount Wilson via Rock of Ages trailhead?

Sorry, you said Mt Wilson. If you're looking to climb Wilsom Peak Southwest Ridge then yes, Rock of Ages is best.

1) You cannot drive to Navajo lake. 14ers route descriptions sometimes separate the initial approach and subsequent routes for areas that have a single route to a hub, and then branching routes from that hub. Which is the case here.

2) Mt Wilson and Wilson Peak are two different mountains, both of which can be reached from any of the trailheads in the area. Which one are you climbing?

3) Speed, is idk? How fast do you hike? Nobody can really give you a great estimate for you on that but you, based on your own past performance.

Wilson Peak is easiest done from Rock of Ages trailhead. With snow I logged 9.6mi and 3,800 feet of gain. Expect it to take 6+ hours RT

Feels hyperbolic.
Either way, since we lost the Captain it's far from the dumbest answer, though!
