If someone had plans to hike a 6 mile/3000 foot 14er with a highway from the trailhead to the summit, odds are their plan B is probably not going to be a 13-14 mile, 5000 foot schwack through the Gores. My guess/hope is they'll just say f**k it and join a co-ed volleyball league in Wash Park.
Haha, or a pickleball league, whatever that is.
It's the sport of the future. I've sustained more injuries on the pickleball court this summer than mountain climbing and there's nothing like beating up on a bunch of seniors.

Some updated information about parking times, costs ($20 - $50), and the shuttle can be found in this article: https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/l ... ts-july-30
Century Bound, eventually.

$50 for the day? Woof.

Edit: Still fully support a shuttle system here, the parking situation was out of control this last year, but also glad I got this one done before it started.

You're totally right.

And this part from the article:

"Any car found in the parking lot not associated with a reservation will be ticketed and towed, county officials said.

There is no cell service at the base of Quandary Peak, McCullough Gulch, or the trailheads."

I started to seriously consider this option, but then I tried to ride my bike up a gentle hill on the way to my house and realized I need a few spin classes first

Only $20 if you start early and finish by 11:30.

I love that the parking website goes live 4 days before the parking requirements are enforced.

I predict a lot more unqualified people trying the west ridge just because it won't require the parking hassle.

And I'm glad I don't feel the need for a 4th summit of quandary.

I wonder if they realize the volume of daily, tourists that go to Blue Lakes or McCullough Gulch and park to walk around for a bit. On weekends, they account for a lot of the vehicle traffic and parking along the road.

They won’t know about shuttles and reservations and will drive the roads, park, walk and not pay for a parking spot.

$20 seems high to park. Manitou Springs ran the numbers and tried to charge $40 a day for people to park (I don't think they had any business majors on their board). It flopped and eventually went back down to $10 per day, with a free shuttle if you were willing to park further away. I wonder how long it will take the Quandry crew to figure out cost benefit analysis as it pertains to Quandary hikers? The month Manitou Springs increased their parking rates is the month I started hiking 14ers. Now, while I hike several times a week, I rarely hike the incline, and my lunch money goes to another community...
It's a mountain: get over it.
