Driving the road to Princeton

Post by RustyOnTheOutside »

I’ve seen videos of Jeeps, FJs, and other mid size SUVs making the drive up Princeton. Anyone know how wide the trail is for accommodating a full size 4x4 truck? It looks fine from what I can tell, but just want to be sure for planning / anticipating how much traffic for sharing the road, especially traffic in opposite directions. We usually hike from THs, but thought we would take advantage here. Any help is appreciated!

There are surprisingly few places to pull aside to allow two vehicles to pass each other. Also, the bottom portions of the road are badly rutted out (spin outs). The upper portions seem to be in better shape. You'll probably find the first few miles to be more challenging than the upper in a full size truck. But otherwise, there is better parking for a full-size truck JUST past the radio towers.
Drive up early and drive down mid-afternoon to better your chances of not running into oncoming vehicles. :)

Excellent info. I have a crew cab Sierra with the shorter bed, so hoping the turns are good. We’ll give it a go. Thank you!

There are several good parking spots past the radio towers. We made it there last summer in an F-150 with out any issues.

I made it all the way to the TH with my leveled Toyota Tundra. It was off peak traveling in the opposite direction time so I did not encounter other vehicles.
Turning around was fun lol ....

With that said it is VERY narrow and I would recommend just parking at or near the towers. You truck should have no problem getting there.
