Camping below Uncompahgre?

Post by jjr_1988 »

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are established sites in the basin below Uncompahgre. I know there is camping before and along the 4WD road, but was hoping to camp a little closer to the peak. Thanks in advance.

There are some that have been used. But nothing that’s truly established. Uncompahgre is a very quick and easy day from the top of the 4x4 road. There are good campsites at the 4x4 upper th and a restroom.

So...it is NOT illegal to camp at these "not well established" places?

You can camp there, but camping above treeline is hard to do from a Leave No Trace perspective.

This. No need to camp higher than the 4WD TH, especially with such a high starting point and a good trail to Uncompahgre.
