This doesn't make sense at all. If he was truly from Crestone he knew or should have known what he was getting into. Maybe he didn't plan on making it out alive.
I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment. I had my first experience driving through there this last summer... It's a little-known fact that multiple scenes from the film "Deliverance," including the famous "Dueling Banjos" scene, were filmed in Crestone.
