Rocky Mountain National Park Conditions

Post by ChrisAthey »

Has anyone tried any of the traditional mountaineering routes in RMNP this season yet? I was mostly curious if the ice had accumulated back from the summer's thaw off, enough to warrant crampons.

Considering there are hundreds of mountaineering routes in the park, it couldn't hurt to be a tad more specific.
Make wilderness less accessible.

Eh a few of us went mozying about on Saturday and tucked tail due to high sustained winds and extreme chill. Not much snow (< 6 inches except drifts and accumulation spots), but some good ice in. Quite a bit of wind loading and unstable sugar slab. Basically, I wouldn't touch anything risky with snow accumulation at the moment though there's plenty of sugar coated talus to enjoy.
