Colorado LiDAR Findings
EDIT: All results that John has posted are here: https://listsofjohn.com/lidar/lidar.php
To see the new summit or saddle location, click on the hyperlinked lidar elevation for each.
Starting a new thread for LiDAR results that John and I are finding that might be of interest.
For Centennial seekers, this one might be of interest.
The true summit of Mt Buckskin is a full meter higher than the spot elevation to the south east. The changed summit location is now reflected on ListsofJohn.com: https://listsofjohn.com/peak/95

This is on the 13,865 marked point of Buckskin looking towards the 'new' summit and Tweto on the left. This was 11 years ago so my memory is fuzzy about whether we discussed going over there just in case.

Re: Colorado LiDAR Findings
Nice! And Buckskin is a much better ski from the western summit.

Re: Colorado LiDAR Findings
Which T 10 is higher? LoJ says North, 14ers says South. Both surveyed at 13,477. The traverse between them sucks, so I assume it's not common to combine them (Derek did by dropping to the east; I climbed them separately).

Yep! I know I did that summit when I skied because the east one was too dry, I walked the ridge in between. I guess now that means my skier icon is a legit summit skiBillMiddlebrook wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 1:18 pm Nice! And Buckskin is a much better ski from the western summit.

Or which Sopris: https://listsofjohn.com/peak/860 or https://listsofjohn.com/peak/861
Interestingly enough, West Sopris is also 293' prominent so maybe both are ranked?
I'm sure there are a couple of others with identical survey summits.

Other questions are welcome! As long as the lidar is available, we can analyze it.
I sent in a request form for the Challenger Point summit/saddle AOI to the Colorado Hazard Mapping website. If this one's unranked, it will change the number of ranked 14ers, as well as including a new Centennial that will be bumped up to fill the extra slot. If this is the case, we can analyze which of the runner ups (Niagara, American, Trinity, Arrow, Castleabra, Organ Mtn, etc) is actually the next highest, and will fill the final slot in the new (theoretical/pending right now) Centennials list.
TNM (The National Map) current coverage: https://prd-tnm.s3.amazonaws.com/LidarE ... dex.html#/
OIT (Government's Office of Information Technology) = CO Hazard Mapping Website coverage: https://coloradohazardmapping.com/lidar
Another coverage map for the above, which differs slightly: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/view ... 62,40.8782
Not all the areas shown in the OIT maps are available for "easy" (usually a couple hundred GB) download - available counties (though sometimes incomplete and sometimes including bits of other counties) are shown here:
https://gisftp.colorado.gov/#/State%20D ... /Counties/
TNM is hoping to complete lidar acquisition for the CONUS by 2022 (3rd paragraph): https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/what-lidar-da ... e_products
As of 9/30/21, it appears as if most of Colorado was either acquired or in progress: https://www.usgs.gov/core-science-syste ... tatus-maps

Re: Colorado LiDAR Findings
I don't have the data with me right now, but I confirmed East Sopris is about a foot higher. West Sopris is ranked. I'll get back with the official elevation info.Chicago Transplant wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 2:03 pmYep! Re: Colorado LiDAR Findings
I found that Bross is indeed ranked (~315', though I'll have to double check my results when I get home). I'll get back with the lidar elevation and prominence.

How much more mining needs to be done before Bartlett isn't a 13er anymore?

Coral Rock.jpg
Nice, although I was kind of looking forward to doing it as an aid climb. Coral Rock is no longer soft-ranked now that it has been determined to be lower than 300 feet?
A friend informed me that Noel's Knob is now ranked per LiDar. Hopefully, it's really only 5.0. https://listsofjohn.com/peak/4322
Also, this soft-ranked 12er in the Gores near Red Peak is now considered ranked. https://listsofjohn.com/peak/872. I hope that one becomes a breast cancer awareness peak!

Re: Colorado LiDAR Findings
Yep, John will eventually add the LiDAR summit and saddle elevations to any he's processed, and remove the "S" for soft-ranked for any that fall short of 300'. You can still aid climb it for kicks though! Might be a fun one.12ersRule wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 3:53 pmbdloftin77 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:33 pmThis one is not ranked!12ersRule wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 11:29 am If this one is ranked, I'm adopting the 100m standard as my definition of ranked. And yep! That's one of the more recent ones he's looked at. https://listsofjohn.com/lidar/lidar.php?
Pink Peak is as well!
