Iguana rescue

Post by Scott P »

Remember when someone abandoned a dog on Bierstadt-Evans and a bunch of people got together to rescue her?

Now someone has abandoned a 3-4 foot iguana near the summit of Elbert.

Would anyone be able to rescue it? I might be able to by Friday. I'll try and find an exact location. It likely has moved much because of the temperature.

oh man, those are usually warm weather animals, not sure how they will fare at night up there assuming it can find food.

Wait, that is so horrible and disgusting. Who does that?! I really want to try to help if I can. How did you find out about it? Is he on the summit itself?

Someone posted about this on the 14ers Facebook page. It looks real, and apparently someone posted in a different Facebook group that their pet iguana was missing from Halfmoon campground. Wild stuff.

Not the use I intended for it but we have a Fidopro rescue sling if anyone wants to borrow it for a rescue. It might work better than a pack?

In the comments is a screenshot of a post - someone is looking for Tony, the iguana, who got out of his cage when camping. So sad…. Hopefully he’ll make it or is found.

I might be able to go up Friday. However I have no idea how to handle a 3-4 foot long iguana. Please post more details as they come in. Hopefully someone can get up there before then, I can't imagine an iguana lasting long up there.
