Record 14er hikers in 2020 season

Post by yardman »

CFI's 2020 hiking use estimates are out: https://www.14ers.org/wp-content/upload ... 4.2021.pdf. All time high of 415,000 use days statewide last season, which was up 44% from the snow-affected 2019 season and 18% above the 2018 prior high season. Quandary continued to grow as the most-visited 14er with 49,179 use days, almost 11,000 days more than #2 Bierstadt. Additional information is posted in the press release and page on 14ers.org.

Interesting. Are those TRAFx recorders they allude to the 20 thermal sensors they mention? Wonder how many hikders slip under the radar...

Yes. 23 Trafx trail counters placed and tested for maximum coverage of passing hikers. We have done periodic field tests with a human observer manually counting hikers as they go by the counter. There has not been much variance. We also post ranges for each peak, which we think are more than generous to catch over/under differences.
