I'm off-topic with the way this thread is going but I'd bet that track is a smallish bobcat, definitely a feline track, it's too round for a coyote... could be a really small lynx as well, there's quite a few in the area but from what I can see of the the human thumb in the pic it would be a small one... if by cat you mean mountain lion it would be roughly the size of a human fist...

I'm late to this party... but, that looks like a juvenile mountain lion track to me. Next time, put something out next to the track for scale - pocket change works great!

John, it’s so neat that you think this might be a juvy mountain lion! I was finally able to modify the photo of my hand next to the track enough that it uploads into my post. This photo shows the track next to my thumb and index finger.

We encountered a large fox in the upper basin last week. His eyes slinked down the hill at us like a cat, but when he hit the headlamps he had that trademark big bushy tail (almost as large as his body). He jumped on the trail about 20 feet behind us and took off downhill. Can't say I've ever seen a fox that high up before (around 12,300).

Seems I see foxes on pretty much every CO trip I make these days. Saw one above 13k on Quandary a few years ago. They are out there all over - beautiful animals!
