I saw a rafter of about 20 turkeys on my first Princeton attempt a little over three years ago so they're definitely in the southern Sawatch vicinity.

Merriam’s turkey is the turkey subspecies found in most of the Colorado high country. Southern sawatch is a very populated area. We have them abundantly around Eagle as well. I’ve hunted them on the Grand Mesa too. Truly one of my favorite animals in the state. So smart and so beautiful and cover some amazing country. This time of the year (their mating and nesting season) they are often around 7000-9000 ft elevation. In the summer I’ve seen them as high as 11000. I just love those birds!
