Well hell, I mean by all means, go tackle a class 3 for your first 14er then. Seems smart.

May I first say this is NOT going to be a good first 14er. Not only is it very long, with a lot of elevation gain, but it will also have lots of snow and without prior experience, at altitude, it is probably not a good idea.
Three words to describe mountaineering: Suffer, forget, repeat. Afterall, climbing is just a fancy way of building up a pain tolerance.
