Hello all,
What, if any, preference is there for direction on Mt Wilson-El Diente traverse? I guess, what would be considered the safest?
I plan on coming from Rock of Ages solo.
Thanks, Alan

There's a fine line between hardcore and stupidity.

Well, if starting at ROA, I'd do El Diente first via either of the two northern routes because it's much easier to descend the north side of Mt. Wilson than either of those ElD routes.

Bill: "Well, if starting at ROA, I'd do El Diente first ..."
Not to disagree with our gracious host, but it depends on when you plan your climb.
We started from ROA (several years ago) in late spring, knocked out Mt Wilson first,
had a great traverse to El Diente, followed by a 1,000 ft gilassade into Navajo Basin before returning
to ROA.
Sweet!

Emotionally, I like the difficulty to build, which means doing the Mt. Wilson summit block last.
It also makes your decent a bit shorter.

There's a class 4 section that you climb up when going elD to Wilson, and you'd have to downclimb it going the other way.

You will have to do the Class 4 part of Mt. Wilson twice no matter which peak you start with.
