I'm stumped and looking for ideas for tomorrow. We had grander plans, but it looks as though the weather may not cooperate. So in looking for something closer to home, does anyone have any peak ideas. We're looking for something in the 8K' - 11K' range with some elevation gain.
Thanks,
Tim

S. Boulder Peak and Bear Peak, via the Mesa Trail out of Eldorado Springs. And, if you are looking for a real butt-buster, make the traverse to Green Mountain.
If you want to get further away from town, take US-285 to Foxton Road (Conifer) and travel south to Cathedral Spires and Banner Peak, or further to Long Scraggy Peak.

Twin Sisters is always good this time of year. You can also look at some hikes in the LCW area.

the 11ers, chief, squaw and warrior off the squaw pass road are nice, accessible peaks. you'd find the road is plowed to echo lake also.

the perfect peak that fits your criteria is BERGEN PEAK in Bergen Park in/near Evergreen. Take the canyon road (Hwy. 74 from Morrison up to Evergreen, through downtown and past the Albertsons on your left, you'll see the familiar brown Jefferson County Open Space Park signs. I believe the TH is Elk Meadow. I climbed it twice in '98 when I lived up there. When you're done, Evergreen Sports Bar has excellent food. It's back toward town on the right, next to the Blockbuster. Take care.

We do those quite often on weekends like this. Trecking poles are good to have because there is often frozen stuff in the shadows. I see some people with yak track or other mini crampons.Eaglevu wrote:S. Boulder Peak and Bear Peak, via the Mesa Trail out of Eldorado Springs.

I did Bergen Peak last weekend. There was a few inches of snow on the ground, particularly near the top. I was testing some snow shoes which came in handy as it had recently snowed. You can get away with no shoes, unless it's snowed this week.
The other cool thing about this location is the elk herd. Last weekend the herd was clustered up on the south side of the ranger cabin in case you don't see them.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going get better. It's not.
