13691 (Every Mountain) from Silver Creek

Post by Gene913 »

Have seen route descriptions and trip reports to summit 13,691 (Every Mountain) from the Cooper Creek TH.
Have seen route descriptions and trip reports to summit 13,832 and 13,811 from the Silver Creek TH.

Have not seen route descriptions and trip reports to summit 13,691 from the Silver Creek TH.

From studying topo maps and CalTopo, it looks like if you start at the saddle between Redcloud and 13,832, you can make a ridge run to 13,691 by going over/past 13,665 and 13,688.

Am I right?

I was part of a group that did -- Cooper Creek TH to 13,691 -- traverse to 13,688-- drop into valley and follow Silver Creek trail to the car; so I am confident that pair can be done from either Cooper Creek or Silver Creek w/o problems.

As for the ridge from 13,688 to 13,832 my understanding is it has some complex sections and an experienced hiker died there a couple years ago.
Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.

And now I found this from benners and answered my own question. It goes.

Not a direct ridge run, you'd have to travel well below it.

Your intended route as drawn does indeed go over the section of ridge near the Redcloud/13,832/"Cooper Creek Peak" tri-point that aforementioned experienced climber died on two years ago. You'll note Ben Conners doesn't go anywhere near the ridge, instead going directly up the south slopes. I wouldn't go anywhere near the ridge either, it's dangerous and looks like this (taken from approximately 12,600'-12,800' on Redcloud's standard route in Silver Creek basin):

That'd probably work, or the snowy center of the slopes to the left (which I would guess is what Ben went up) or the ridge to the left or your blue line, the one that starts near the bottom of the line. I don't remember exactly what that immediate area is like, whether there's eroded rills or whatnot, but I'm guessing it'll be fairly obvious what goes and what doesn't (which includes the gnarly ridge).

Tornadoman and Supranihilest -- Thanks for the insights and suggestions. Will look it over once we're in the Silver Creek basin and find something that goes but does not deal with the gnarly ridge. Geezer climbers like me won't do it at the pace you can sustain, but we'll get up and down safely.
