Thank you from Texas

Post by The spindoctor »

First off I'd like to thank Bill for providing this site and all those that have contributed to what it is. It's an amazing resource for those of us far away who can't scout things out first.

Had a blast in the San Juans, met some great people, amazing scenery, and was blessed with good weather. Made it up Handies, Redcloud, and Uncompahgre. Took a much needed rest day and headed up to the Matterhorn Creek trailhead to take a shot at Wetterhorn. That's when I noticed my steering rack bushing was ripped in half and also had a torn CV boot. Not something I wanted to see by myself way up a trail at 10,800ft! Considering I still wasn't feeling 100%, I took this as a sign the mountain was telling me to go home. So I limped it down the hill, back to Lake City, and eventually to Gunnison for the night. O'Reilly's had the bushing and were ok with me changing it out in the parking lot real quick and drove the 14hrs home. My wife said the AC quit working about 2hrs earlier, and of course they can't get the part until Monday. It was 99 yesterday so I'm missing the Colorado weather!

Now to start planning the next trip!

Once you've got that bug, it's hard to shake it (and there's no vaccine). Guess you'll just have to live with it and flatten it to spread your summits out over years and years.

Take care!

So true! This reminds me of when I started racing sportbikes, it definitely gets in your blood. I met a gentleman from Arizona on Handies that said this was his 50th year coming to Colorado to hike. I can only hope I'll be able to do the same.
