It's crazy how long the snow has lingered. What a winter

We dug the Yes trench on Saturday afternoon, so anyone who hiked G&T before that only had the option to take the NO trench. Unfortunately, the No trench was getting impossible to hike up and the down slide was leading hikers off-route. After a few hours with a few shovels, the Yes route was built to work equally for hikers in both directions. On Sunday, we watched as hundreds of hikers went across it without problem. The few who climbed over the snow wall and slid down the No trench were trying to hike down to a lower snow patch so that they could glissade like idiots without ice axes. Your best (and quickest) approach is to stay on the trail through this section. Microspikes are not needed but poles can be helpful.

Here's BenfromtheEast aka "Shovel Boy" putting in the trench at 13,700'.

Shovel Boy deserves a 6 pack! That couldn't of been easy with the heavy spring snow, thanks to the workers who went out to help this weekend! I would love to get involved in the one day volunteering (I don't have time with work and school to join a trail crew). Bill, any advice for joining you guys?

Nick (MonGoose) organizes our annual 14ers.com+14ers.org field weekend so you could ask Nick to include you in the future info. We usually have a crew of 15 or so climbers who join a CFI crew for the weekend. These days have proven to be really productive because we have a lot of experienced folks who are used to being at high elevation.

No worries. I think MonGoose’s photo from Saturday shows the problem. Once they dug the trench, most people stayed on the trail.

Sweet, I'd love to be included next year. Looks like a great way to help out, and agreed, having experienced climbers who are used to being at that elevation (and working hard up there) must be a productive environment. I bet its also enjoyable. MonGoose, if you see this please consider me during your planning next year! :)
