Winter Peaks for Beginners

Post by JQDivide »

Bill shared on Facebook, so I'll share it here.

Bill has added a new section to the website, Winter 14ers For Beginners.
The link is under the "Routes & Planning" dropdown menu.
https://www.14ers.com/winter14ers.php

This was a project Ryan Richardson and I started a couple years ago. We discussed the topic of winter peaks for beginners and what they needed to know. A draft here and there, and then I finally wrote it up. Ryan and Brad McQueen took the draft and added content. We made edits. Then we had Kevin Baker have a read through.

It's probably not perfect. And some people might have a different opinion about a few things.
Bill wrote the ski section.

We hope this will provide quality information to those hikers that want to start looking at winter peaks; and provide the beginners with enough knowledge to not only enjoy the the snow covered summits, but to do it safely.

We want to thank Bill for allowing us to add content to this amazing site. It was very gracious of him to let us add, not a trip report, but a full section.

Very cool and nice resource.

I think I'd just highlight that "winter 14ers are not for beginners" though.

You can be a "winter beginner", but not a "beginner"as most people would use that word!

Hope you don't mind some small edits/qa:

You will be hiking in changing temperatures and conditions throughout the day: From still and bitter cold in the morning,
You probably want the colon after "day" to be a period, or lowercase the f in "From"

"Facemasks" should probably be, "Face masks".

There's also encoding issues,
‘up' and
‘down'
Those funny chars should probably just be single quotes. Although those single quotes should be double quotes, if you follow the rest of the style you're using.

"Gloves or mitten?" should probably be, "Gloves or mittens?"

There may be more :)

Good info, maybe add a section highlighting the importance of having a beard, and some tips on how to grow one?

Absolutely.

That's advanced info. We might be able to convince Brad to teach a "masters" class in beards, but there would need to be a prereq of 10 winters peaks.
