Is it actually in the NW ?

Nope. It's actually one of the most famous mountains in South America.

Chimborazo in Ecuador?

Bingo. It must be the Rainiers long lost twin of the Andes since the mountains look so similar.

Jeff knows his stuff!

It's interesting, I did a google image search and only found 2 images taken from the same side of the mountain as the picture Scott posted. Almost all of them were from the other side.

Thanks once again denalibound for the kind words. Chimborazo is actually on my "to do" list.

This was the key to quickly identifying it as a tropical Andean volcano.

An interesting tidbit about Chimborazo...if measured from the center of the Earth (as opposed to elevation above sea level), Chimborazo is estimated to be the highest mountain on the planet. This is due to the equatorial bulge.

Great idea for a quick guessing game...maybe we should do it daily!!

Have you climbed Chimborazo?

Not until January. However, some have said the mountain may not be open to climbers due to the eruption of Tungarahua, but I hear conflicting stories on that matter.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll post a few a day. I'll make them not too easy, but not so hard that no one will get it. Here's the next one:

I've been on Chimborozo but I haven't climbed it.

Are you referring to the one in the background, or the one the people are climbing?

Haha!! If I hadn't done it, someone else would have. I was just showing the picture to Meteor (who had been in a meeting). He barely glanced at that one and immediately said, "I've seen that picture! It's in his SummitPost collection!"

Sorry, guess I've made life a little more difficult  .
