2022 Goals

Post by nmjameswilson »

In previous years the goals thread was started on 12/1 so I have created one as I am working on my 2022 climbs now having just booked Culebra this morning.

My 2022 Goals:
1. To Finish the last seven 14ers I have left to climb since starting this journey in 2019. Longs is the finisher so people can fly in and join me. :-D
2. Start on the top 13ers in Colorado if I can get back out after the 14er trip.
3. Workout more especially with weights like I used to do.
4. Drink less alcohol
5. Better life/work balance.
6. Buy an RV and work from the road.
7. Fish more! (Catch a 10 pound largemouth bass)
8. Get back to and work on my NM land

Here is my preliminary schedule:

Glad to see we're already looking ahead to our goals next year. Low key, my goal is literally to head out to Colorado sometime in 2022 and summit my first 14er.

That is awesome man! Which one are you thinking about climbing first? My first was Grays and Torreys and might be a good option for you too.

I hear that. I fell short of my goals this year and it's only left me disappointed. So my goal for 2022 is to focus on having FUN.

Yeah, I was considering either those 2 or Quandary as my first. I may do Grays & Torreys first just to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Hell, I could do all 3 if I have enough time.

It doesn't take that much time to do the two but you will need a good weather day to get all three in. Also you will have to see how you handle elevation since these are your first climbs. I would start slow. :-)

Oh, of course. I know that. I'll probably have a week or so, which will be plenty of time. In past I acclimated well up to 8000ft but haven't tested how I would do any higher.

Booked:
1. Trip to the Adirondacks July 9th - 16th. (This includes family so I won't be able to do all the peaks I want because it has to be doable for everyone. Still working on peak list.)
2. Trip to Lake City July 24th - 30th.
- Wetterhorn Peak
- Uncompahgre Peak
- Handies Peak
- Redcloud Peak
- Sunshine Peak
3. Trip to Leadville September 5th - 10th.
- Mt Elbert
- Mt Massive
- Mt Belford
- Mt Oxford
- Huron Peak

Tentative for late September/early October:
1. Bierstadt and Evans via the Sawtooth
2. Torreys Peak via Kelso Ridge

I am also considering starting late fall and spring hikes beginning in October - November 2022. These hikes will be more to keep me from going stir crazy waiting to get back to the mountains and will depend on the weather in Colorado, as well as the weather while traveling from Missouri to my destination.

Several of these are ones I didn't finish in 2021 and some are local peaks, climbs, hikes, or canyons that I repeat regularly. For 2022 though, I know I'm working locally all year, so the list is easier to stick with and planning will be easier. I bumped up some of my generic goals and reduced others based on what I was able to do in 2021 and what partners I expect to find for the technical ones. If any of these climbs/canyons interest you, please let me know.

Post by timisimaginary »

my 2022 goals are still in flux at this point, but some candidates on the list include:

1) sub-4:00 marathon
2) another 50k (likely depends on how my foot tendinitis recovery goes)
3) possibly pursuing 5K and half-marathon PRs
4) Iceland - northern lights, puffins, and possibly a trail marathon; might involve multiple trips
5) Maine - Katahdin
6) some form of trip out West, to possibly include CO, UT or NM; Wheeler Peak in NM, a 14er or several in CO, possibly a trail race in UT; and ideally, a lot of roaming around in a rented camper van to decide if i want to pursue purchasing one in the future
7) find the time to actually read the complete list of Scott P's 2022 goals
