Re: Climate Change
KerO, I was a blue collar machinist for 25 years (literally, our coveralls were blue), but I have enough sense to realize that the world is changing, and changing fast. Coal miners and Western farmers are going to have to find something else to do. If they are too dumb to realize that, then yeah, fuk ‘em.

Re: Climate Change
You obviously do realize where you live, Jack. That's not too shabby for someone who describes himself as "a SEAL stuck in the body of a corporate hack" and admits that "have never met an engineer who works as an engineer". On the other hand, I have never met corporate hack who doesn't dream about outsourcing engineering and production jobs to Asia. You must be very conflicted about yourself.
Imagine having at our disposal cloning technology to create rent-a-wombs and mindless slave labor, would we dare to implement it? I believe that we would, in spite of endless ethical issues, because those would be embodiments of the pure essence of liberal capitalism. That would also take care of X-fitter's "plan B" when barbarian invasions start happening. No more outsourcing, no more labor shortages, let's just build the wall and keep having sex with ourselves, technology will be there to preserve this lifestyle forever.
Mad Max probably wasn't the best analogy to begin with, although the latest movie was visual feast and I respect Nyker's taste in choosing it. Blade Runner would've been the perfect one.

Re: Climate Change
Here's how liberals deal with blue collars: "Ya know that life you used to have? Yea, not possible anymore. It's really your fault for not keeping up with changing global market. We are gonna kill your jobs and we are send you back to school so you can learn new skills. You probably will have to move bc the new jobs aren't in bumblefuck KY. Most likely, you will move to a major city where your conservative values will be attacked. Also, you will probably work longer hours at an office and will see less of your family. Ah, speaking of family, you should send your kids to college coz they will also need new skills. College will cost a fortune but don't worry we will loan you money for that. Also, here's a handout to help you. Also, here is the science on climate change. Let me shove that down your throat. Oh you don't believe? What a fucktard, science-denier. By the way, I am also gonna label you deplorable"supranihilest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 3:14 pm Wait, so it's liberals fault that conservatives dug in their heels and refused to stay current with the changing global market? Talk about passing the buck. Look at coal mining in West Virginia. It was Hillary Clinton who had a campaign promise to provide modern job training and re-training. Meanwhile the coal mining industry has continued its decline and its displaced workers got nothing. How about those blue collar jobs in the auto industry? It wasn't conservatives who voted for the bailout. Surely letting the auto industry die would have somehow, in that invisible hand, free market way, actually saved those blue collar jobs instead? It was conservatives who voted to dig in their heels and refuse to stay current with the changing global market. Now, I'm sure there are many people who are tired or getting tired of having conservatives slap away the hand that wants to help. I am one of them. But I also think we should keep trying to help the poor, the jobless, the disenfranchised, the downtrodden, the forgotten, the ignored, the weak, the sick, regardless of how many times they refuse help.
So what's it going to be? More permanent tax cuts for the rich and free market solutions and status quo? More blaming windmills for deregulated, privatized power grid failure? More claims that the dominant majority religion is persecuted because gay people exist? More attacks on higher education and public programs that overwhelmingly help the very people who attack them? Should we actually help these blue collar workers or should we attack Hollywood? Should we help these blue collar workers or should we attack consumerism? Should we help these blue collar workers or should we fight tooth and nail against any small increase in prices or taxes on anything at the cost of our nation's health? What's it going to be?
I imagine the exchange between Europeans and Native Americans was similar: "Ya know that life you used to have? Yea, not possible anymore. It's really your fault for not keeping up with changing global market. We are gonna take your land so the settlers can raise cattle and plant crops. We can help you learn skills to work for the settlers. We may or may not pay you. Also, you will need to adjust to European customs. Here is some clothing for you."

I'm not even going to address this bulls**t except to say that you don't want to be called stupid and yet your comparison of modern times and modern technology to European colonization of the Americas and the following genocide is absolutely, by far, without a doubt, the stupidest thing I have ever seen on this forum. Also don't put words in my mouth. I said none of those things. Thanks.

I'd refer you to the history of Civilizing Missions, which was the basis for European colonization, and how Modernization Theory is a continuation of it.
"The civilizing mission is a political rationale for military intervention and for colonization purporting to facilitate the modernization and the Westernization of indigenous peoples, especially in the period from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Modernization theory proposed that the economic self-development of a nonEuropean people is incompatible with retaining their culture. Therefore, development criticism sees economic development as a continuation of the civilizing mission."
And more...
"The earliest principles of modernization theory can be derived from the idea of progress, which stated that people can develop and change their society themselves. This theory also states that technological advancements and economic changes can lead to changes in moral and cultural values. Modernization theory observes traditions and pre-existing institutions of so-called "primitive" societies as obstacles to modern economic growth. Modernization which is forced from outside upon a society might induce violent and radical change, but according to modernization theorists it is generally worth this side effect. Critics point to traditional societies as being destroyed and slipping away to a modern form of poverty without ever gaining the promised advantages of modernization."
