San Juans- Air Quality

Post by Bombay2Boulder »

Air quality is pretty poor in the San Juans right now- SIlverton, Telluride, Ouray area due to fires in New Mexico, AZ. You can feel it while breathing in town. In case anyone is planning on being there. The counties are also updating their facebook pages about this.
You can check the area in the map below-

There is also a small fire on Cottonwood Pass between Gypsum and Basalt, Cottonwood Pass is currently closed. It was still under an acre at lunch time, so hopefully they get it out quickly. We are expected to have some wind later today. Its getting pretty hazy in Avon right now (but that is mainly from the same NM/AZ fires not this little one).

Looks like this little one is out, and the road is now reopened. https://www.vaildaily.com/news/glenwood ... pass-fire/

Can confirm. I just drove from Taylor Park to Buena Vista and the day started off clear and blue but Cottonwood Pass was very hazy, almost white, and BV is slightly less so.

I have a bad feeling this summer is going to suck.

The smoke rolled in this morning around 9:00 AM (between Lake City and Silverton) and didn’t depart until this afternoon. Looks like the AZ fires are going to be growing over the next couple of weeks so smoke can be expected.
