Sad event. I remember that, it happed in 2012 a few months before I was there. A lot of folks were impacted by that and I had spoken to a few involved in the search, definitely some tension remained there for months.

There was a series of books that described the more sensational and notable deaths in national parks:

"Death in the Grand Canyon"
"Death in Yellowstone"
"Death in Yosemite"

I thumbed through the first at the GCNP store and it seemed interesting.

There is a book for RMNP in this series that just came out last year. Some interesting stories.

I remember reading about 2 airliners crashing into each other over the Grand Canyon back in the 50's with over 120 deaths. I believe the pilots were trying to give their passengers a better view of the canyon when they collided.

And there was the November 1950 plane crash on Mount Moran in Grand Teton National Park. All 21 passengers on the DC-3 died. The plane and the remains of the victims were all left there as a memorial because the terrain was too difficult to recover the plane or the bodies.
