"Dead Mountain" I believe.
There are more books on the event than that. If I remember right Mountain of the Dead came out at around the same time as Dead Mountain. A sequel came out to the book a few months ago. I haven't read it yet. There are at least half a dozen other books in English on the event.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Maybe they panicked when Dr. Jon K entered their camp to ask them if he could lodge with them for the night.
