Popo Agie (River, Wilderness, etc.) -- unless you've heard someone else say it, you probably can't pronounce it correctly.

Jackass Pass -- the trail into the Cirque of the Towers is not that bad in the scheme of things, but does have a bunch of false summits.

Cirque of the Towers -- speaking of which, that's a pretty cool name too.

Most Wyoming 13ers have pretty creative and fitting names; Klondike (with its huge glacier) and Knife Point (with its sharp summit obelisk) come to mind.

Truth or Consequence, New Mexico

A town in New Mexico that had the bright idea to change their name to a popular 1950 radio segment so that they would broadcast an episode from their town, all in the hopes of becoming a big tourist destination.


Well over 60 years later no one knows about the Truth or Consequence game show and to pour salt in the wound. Everyone forgot about the awsome hot springs in the area that the town was originally named after.

and, of course, there's Pie Town, New Mexico.

And don't forget Las Vegas, New Mexico!

It sounds a lot cooler to talk about climbing stuff like Mount Terror, Forbidden Peak, Phantom Peak, Poltergeist Pinnacle, or Mount Despair than it does to regale the crowd about your close calls on Mount Belford, Mt. Lindsey, or Mount Sherman.

Traveling across Arkansas can be an interesting journey.
What you do is start in Goobertown, head southwest toward Possum Grape. From there it’s a straight shot over to Toad Suck.
I would advise you to skip Monkey Run, it's messy. Stinking Bay is an odorous option. You could slip by Greasy Corner if you have the time.
Some quality time in Romance is always a good option. But from there it’s pretty much downhill. By way of Weiner or Bald Knob you could go through Threeway.
But if you don’t go far enough you might get stuck in Blue Ball, ain’t nobody wants to get stuck there.

Many things in Wyoming are creatively named, one for my ex. She would perhaps take issue with my assessment.
