For the benefit of those who haven't read it...
Ode to a Pink Tricam

Oh Pink's the one I love to place
When I'm alone way up in space
On some exposed and airy face.

They sink where other gear won't go.
When all you've got is manky pro,
This tricam saves your butt from woe.

But it's often hard to get them out;
They make your second moan and shout
And wave his nut tool 'round about

But that's why you're the one on lead
Your problems are a different breed
As long as someone does the deed…

"Oh quit your whimpering," you rumble,
"And get it out or there'll be trouble"
"Get to work now, on the double!"

Although it sometimes takes a while,
They do come out with vim and guile,
(Or chiselling and curses vile.)

Pink will do what all the rest
Won't do when they're put to the test
Oh pink tricams are just the best!

Reviving one of my favorite threads to mention two new pieces of gear that I picked up this year and love so far.

1. Two-person Bothy Bag
- Received this as a Christmas gift and have carried it as my emergency shelter ever since. I've found it useful in non-emergency situations as well. I hiked Cupid Peak in January with the temperature hovering near 0F and winds around 25 mph. I pulled out the bothy bag on the summit to get out of the wind for a snack break and it made a huge difference. I was able to eat and drink with my gloves off. I also used it a few weeks ago on my failed attempt of Mt. Columbia. I decided to turn around at treeline but it was still only 9AM. I had only slept an hour or so the night before so I slept in the bag for a bit before heading back down. Perfectly comfortable inside. It also only takes about 30 seconds to pack it back up after use. At 13 oz, I plan to continue to carry it throughout the spring and summer, especially on high wind forecast days.

2. Baleaf UPF 50 Sun Hoody
- I generally run pretty warm and mostly wear just a base-layer during summer hiking. But after repeatedly getting sunburns on my neck last summer, I decided I needed to get a "sun hoody" base layer in preparation for this summer hiking season. This one was much cheaper than the name-brands but it was reviewed almost as well. I decided to give it a shot and hopefully save some money. I've worn it trail running in 60F weather and haven't overheated at all. Breathability was my only concern and it seems to have passed the test.

My makeshift glacier glasses. Just sunglasses with pieces of cardboard cut to be sideblinders. I seem to get headaches from too much light really easily and haven't been willing to shell out for nice prescription glacier glasses yet so these do the job. Plus they say "Idaho Spuds" on the outside so there's the obvious cool factor.

#4 Camalot. Loved them so much I had 4 of them (not that I expect many folks on this site to really grok the implication of this...)

I grok your usage of the term "grok." Stranger in a Strange Land is a grok book.
