Duniverse. I like that. I feel the same way after reading all of them. First was best. Children and God Emperor, 2 and 3.

The others are worth reading but lack the subtle layering of papa Frank.

I've seen every episode of every iteration of both.
Dune is the best Sci Fi story of all time
As much as I love Trek and SW, I actually feel insulted when I watch either much of the time. It's like they were written by middle schoolers and they think an adult like me is too dumb to notice.
That said, lightsabers and Yoda for the win. Nothing in the history of Trek comes close to as cool as either. Although no character in the history of SW ever cane close to the level of development needed to make grown men cry at "I have been, and always shall be, your friend"
Star Wars actually had it's Genesis (not like ST3 Genesis...) as a cheap knockoff of Dune. Look for that on YouTube. Impossible not to see it once you know.
Picard was the best captain, even thought Sisko punched Q in the face. DS9 was the only Trek that ever kicked ass. Janeway and Kira were in a race to the bottom for whiny girl power characters.
And yeah, BSG was better than either. You can frak off if you disagree.

Yes, if the debate is that originally posted, SW at its best, is the better of the two. Worth noting is that without Dune, SW doesn't exist in recognizable form; Lucas used Dune as the basis for the foundations of what made SW great.

There should be a Dune/Herbert credit in the SW credits right at the top of the list. :mrgreen:

This is the best Star Trek, Star Wars related song. I can't believe the new Picard show didn't use this in their promo. The Saga Begins by Weird Al is a close second.

Have never seen or read Dune but am intrigued. Do you think it would still be good/not too dated to read now? I think I’ll skip the first movie and wait for the one if I read the book first.

Dated? Absolutely NOT. In fact, I find much of it more relevant today than when originally written. Great books!

As a matter of fact, I just started rereading the entire original six volumes. I'm all the way to Heretics at this point...

The Dune tv mini series was watchable, even good at some parts, but you'd probably still have to be a previous fan to enjoy it.
The other Dune stuff has been not great.

Really hoping this movie turns out well, I think the best indicator is that it's 2 movies. I was so disappointed with Enders Game, and think if it had been in 2 parts it would have been decent.

I'm hopeful for Dune but know if the past adaptations are any indicator...

Yes! Agreed. I love all the Dune books. As well as the Dune book series by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson (who lives in Colorado and has climbed a few 14ers, which makes this thread 14er relevant, thus cannot be deleted.) :-D

I actually have one with me here at work at this moment! "Dune : The Duke of Caladan." The most recent.

So much of Star Wars was inspired/lifted/taken/stolen from Dune.

I too hated to hear about waiting another year for the new Dune movie. But after waiting probably 15-20 years as it got passed and fizzled from director to director, one more year isn't too bad.
