Chiming in as a current and past resident of towns near public lands and a land management volunteer... A few of you have already alluded to this, but the campground and park closure measures have been taken not only to protect the local populations and ease stress on medical facilities but also to not overwhelm already stretched law enforcement and EMS resources. Park rangers have had more and more responsibility in their job descriptions with less resources pre-COVID, so a global pandemic on top of everything else right in the middle of spring break and the approaching summer visitation increase is...a pickle.

With the exception of Rocky and Yosemite (I think), national parks are still open for day hiking and I think the CO state parks are case by case last I checked. If you do go day hiking in parks and recreation areas, please be even more vigilant and smart than usual about preventing injury and resource damage! Crime and regular medical issues in nearby towns haven't slowed down in the midst of COVID, so please give the rangers a break and not make it worse.

Also I hope everyone is staying safe and sane out there!
I ventured out for the first time in a week yesterday and I wondered, "what would it take to get a speeding ticket?" There's not a lot of traffic in the first place, 2) a lot of the police are busy doing other things, 3) they've probably been instructed to only pull people over if it is really bad just for the officer's health as well. Of course, I drive an under powered 7000 lbs vehicle, so the only way I can "speed" is on 2 lane highways where the speed limit drops from 65 to 25 entering a town (I'm looking at you Villa Grove).

Go for a quick day hike, but you don't have to send cap right now on skis. A "Seasoned mountaineer" once told me, you want to be at 2000 rpm cruising down the high way. You're in control. You need a little umph, you can get it. Hopefully people are taking it down a notch or 2 from where their "2000 rpm" is. Of course, JMO.

There is a fair amount of public sentiment building against crowded recreation areas in the US. Just tweet-search "Loveland Pass" for negative tweets about last weekend. Or search California packed beaches. But its not like theater-close crowds or airplane seating where a cough could spread germs. So far this has only nominally shut down much of the national park system. They could go a lot further like in Italy to semi-martial law.

Forget toilet paper. The hottest commodity in Colorado high-country right now is alpine-touring skis haha
Yes, I wear masks whenever indoors and I practice strong social distancing

thanks for once again demonstrating your character on this forum, and providing the best argument yet in favor of social distancing.

This is the perfect time to take road trips and explore the back country.

Which becomes illegal on Tuesday March 24 if you are from Denver. Doubt if they can enforce it.

Interview on PBS tonight with a doctor in Los Angeles talking about COVID 19.  Turns out the virus is everywhere, but only by testing can it be detected.
Think about that for a minute.  It is everywhere, but we can't detect it without testing.
Hold on.  Is it EVERYWHERE but you can't detect it without testing?

Brings to mind a quick fix.
