Most Overhyped Sections of Peaks?
In the current thread about what's comparable to Longs, I saw a mention of Kit Carson Avenue, one that seemed to suggest it was sketchy or challenging.
I mean no disrespect to the person who mentioned it, but for all those who haven't done that peak or are contemplating others, I want to put to rest the idea that the Avenue or other spots I consider overhyped are a big deal.
The avenue on Kit Carson is trivial. I can't understand where the hype comes from, especially from anyone who's been there.
It's two sidewalks wide in most spots and not very steep.
Look at Oman here on the avenue back in 2007. He looks terrified.
What other sections of 14er or 13er routes do you think get overhyped?
Do any armchair psychologists or sociologists have theories on why this happens?

Most things once you gain enough experience. It all depends on experience.

Badass factor. Best way to make yourself feel like a True Mountaineer™ while only climbing 14ers is to make it sound really hard/scary.Matt wrote: Do any armchair psychologists or sociologists have theories on why this happens?
Only semi-hyped route I've done so far was the Sawtooth traverse, which was a joke. It was not class 3. 99% of it was not exposed, and the only time I felt in any danger was going down the Spalding/Evans gully back into the willows... and while trying not to want to kill myself while sinking in knee deep mud in the willows. If that route is any indication of hype vs. reality, everything else should be gravy.

Most named features on the 14ers. I guess I'll play the role of elitist and go with the Knife Edge on Cap.

I was the person that mentioned Kit Carson Avenue in the other thread and was simply trying to find sections of other 14ers that compared to sections of Longs...not trying to overhype anything. Just drawing comparisons.

Eolus catwalk comes to mind, its wider than the trail and at least on the left side, not even really exposed as there is a huge ledge like 5 feet down.
Last time we were in Chicago Basin people seemed really nervous about it, one group on the trail even was carrying a rope. We asked if it was for the Spire, but they said it was for the catwalk! You don't need a rope for the catwalk, trust me.
