Chapeau, Joe! He was certainly the quicker one on course. I admire how he made the challenge and journey his own, especially all the deviations he did to the course I had laid out: moving from Evans to Pikes via Tarryall, his Gash Ridge romp to Lindsey, his foray into the Sawatch from Lake City, his traverses over Hope Pass and Argentine Pass.
Lots of ideas to think about for the next challenger, and the next chapter of this wild adventure. I have an obvious bias, but it's my opinion that this is one of the greatest self-powered adventures one can take in Colorado. It makes say, racing the Colorado Trail look like a prologue.
Like the "walking artist" Hamish Fulton would perhaps profess (and I'm certainly paraphrasing), no two journeys are ever taken the same way, and only the individual on the journey knows the true nature of the trek. To really understand, one must go themselves, inspired by the ones that have gone before them.
For this challenge (and those like it), it certainly is a small brotherhood still.

It's refreshing to see Joe and Justin getting some love on the second page of the newspaper this morning, rather than the usual team sports BS.

Re: Joe Grant's Tour de 14er
I'm super impressed by Joe's trip through the 14ers. 32 days is a pretty amazing feat for a self-supported bike/hike through the 14ers. I love that he started and finished in Gold Hill, whereas back in 2003 I started and finished my self-powered run from my house in Jamestown, just a few miles away...
Anyway congratulations Joe! Im sure you must be satisfied by the way this all turned out!

I'd expect better from such a seasoned writer and his copy editor...08/24/16 Quandry Peak
None of that takes away from such a bad ass accomplishment.
For a laugh, read some of the nonsense in the comment section.

Also "Bierdstadt". At least he stuck to the traditional misspellings.

Haha, that may have been me. As a silly joke on my side, I put the mountain as, "Mt. Quandry Peak" on the chart/spreadsheet. Believe it's written similarly on the sign on the hw?Matt wrote: Then, there's this:I'd expect better from such a seasoned writer and his copy editor...08/24/16 Quandry Peak
Oh god, the comments, my eyes.
