I can't post a picture because I don't want to give it away, but I've got a ski mountaineering project I'll do in the Sawatch sometime this winter or spring.
I don't think it's been done in the last 25 years.

Been wanting to ski this face for so long. Ended up skiing it twice, from the top down the curving couloir and again on the looker's left crescent couloir. Anyone else have some fun projects to share that they want to do/ have done this season?

And just like that, this thread is back from the DEAD!

I was standing on a mountain the other day and happened across this little doozy...

She's a looker, ain't she?

I'd hit that.
- A mountain is not a checkbox to be ticked
- Alpinism and mountaineering are not restricted to 14,000 foot mountains
- Judgment and experience are the two most important pieces of gear you own
- Being honest to yourself and others about your abilities is a characteristic of experienced climbers
- Courage cannot be bought at REI or carried with you in your rucksack

3 years minus a day, nice George! I've personally been drooling over this one for the past few days:

Doubt I'll get to ski it this year though...

I've been ogling this side of Peak N every time I drive to Steamboat. It's high on the wish list, but I think it's about 6 miles one way just to the bottom of the face. It's a wilderness area, so no sleds to make it a shorter day.

The west face from the NW sub summit of Galena, aka 'Old Hundred' has been in my sights for some time, being very visible from San Juan County Rd 2 East of town. The lower aprons are usually dry before the upper slopes are set up. Gave her a go last week, and it worked out like this:

The upper portions shown here later in the season from King Solomon, and the bottom dropped out before late April. Clues of a trail can be seen here, indicating the traverse to the escape chute sans rappel.
