Did they or were they planning to go pick it up after they kicked it? What does a terrain like where they kicked it? is it where folks are going up another route or hiking/camping or is steep unnavigable terrain?
I think this would have been better received (no pun intended) if there was a receiver down below that safely would just pick the ball up even if it was going too fast to catch it, then remove it from the wilderness.

From the video I believe they kicked it off the north face (big shear cliff). No trails down there and in the opposite direction from the trailhead.nyker wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 4:38 pm Did they or were they planning to go pick it up after they kicked it? Someone from 9News claims that the ball was retrieved, but the "full story isn't out yet"...

Good on them for collecting the ball. Still a stupid thing to do. If folks don't watch the whole story and only view the tweet, they get the wrong message...it's okay to kick/throw objects off of peaks. Also seemed to be way too big a group in wilderness area. Arielle Risotto is a bit salty in that reply.

Yeah and it took only one of them to find it? Or did the large group/part of the group tread across tundra to search for it?denvermikey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 6:36 pm Yyyeaahhhhh I'm calling BS on the fact that he went and got the ball....

Can't wait for the Netflix special on this using the player's Strava accounts, geocoords from other social media, isolated frames of the football, satellite footage, wind analysis, to determine that the "retrieval"is a crock of h0r$e$#!t
Re: 9News promoting LNT on Uncompahgre
That’s a really clean ball for having likely landed on talus at terminal velocity and bounced a few times. That and the likelihood one of those coaches hiked into the basin opposite Nellie Creek and somehow tracked it down is zero. Definitely a quick photo of a new ball here to try handling the PR snafu. Lying about it after doing the wrong thing? Shameful.
