Massive rockslide in RMNP near Hallet peak

Post by twhalm »

Just saw the following videos and was in awe at the size of the slide (sorry for instagram links I didn't see it anywhere else):

I don't think I'd hang out where that second person was filming from.

I saw those videos last night and my jaw hit the floor   .

I've seen some big rockfall before (massive boulder dropping from near the summit of Columbia and scattering debris near some common camping areas in Horn Fork basin, you've been warned), but nothing like that.

Geologic time is now.

The idiot standing below it and continuing to film, instead of starting to run. Potential death is worth a cool instagram video right? #-o

Reminds me of the guy who stayed around to capture Mt. St. Helens. Honestly, at that distance, what can you do?

High risk high reward, now he's IG famous for a day. Natural selection runs its course with everyone, who are we to judge?

Aside from that, this is a nice reminder that anything can happen on any given day. Nature is awe-inspiring

*Watches the entire face of a mountain coming down above them*
*Doesn't move*

On a side note, I'd go up there and start looking for mineral veins.

Definitely not the best orientation when trying to film the entire face of a mountain sliding away.

And the soundtrack. I like the song, but would have been nice to hear the rock fall.
Amazing timing on getting video of it though.

Really wanting to see what the before and after pictures look like...
If you can't run, you walk
If you can't walk, you crawl
If you can't crawl, you find someone to carry you
