Directions to TH for Lackawanna:

From the Twin Lakes turnoff from Highway 24, take Highway 82 towards Independence Pass. Go approximately 15.8 miles. Just after this, there is a large, obvious open area on the north side with a large, obvious gully in the middle. This is your trailhead. Approximately .1 miles back (at 15.7 miles), there is a pull off on the south side of the road. If you go past the sign saying "end of avalanche area," then you have passed the "trailhead." The trailhead is .9 miles past the LaPlata standard TH.

Here is a nice TR:

Hope to see you all there at 5:30 AM.

Also, I'm planning on staying in the Leadville Hostel tonight and starting up Bull Hill @ 8 AM tomorrow morning.

I'll probably spend the night in my van at or near the TH. Maroon Grand Caravan. Wake-up call, please (jk).

Bull hill at 8 AM Friday sounds good. We're in a dusty red Forester.

We will be at the TH on Friday night, driving a grey Civic and sleeping in our patented white trash bags of awesomeness. This is looking like a perfect weekend!

Climbed Bull Hill today. It was much more challenging than expected. Snow conditions were rather poor (as in difficult trail breaking), but stable. The snow is crust on sugar, but the top layer is quite bonded contiguously.

Hopefully the couloir route works well, because the consistency of the snow makes for difficult trailbreaking.

Also, I twisted my knee a little today, but I don't think it is serious. It is feeling better now, but just in case I don't show up, please don't wait for me.

Thanks Scott for getting us together. It was a pleasure meeting and climbing with all of you Ben, Bethany & Scott. While it was much more effort than planned it was still a good day in the hills.

We really enjoyed hiking Bull Hill with Scott and Brian today. The weather was quite interesting at times--not sure my phone did the best job capturing the conditions, but here's a photo of Brian and Ben "sheltering" from the wind near the summit.

Hope everyone has fun on Lackawanna tomorrow!

Lackwanna was in perfect condition and much, much easier than Bull Hill. After ~100 yards of postholing with snowshoes, the couloir was in perfect condition. Very fast, direct, and fairly easy.

Pretty good conditions for glissading, but we would punch through in places, so you couldn't do a continuous glissade. Still, it was a quick trip down.

It was a good climb and a good two days.

Thanks for posting Scott, I was wondering how it went. Sort of makes me wish I would have stayed - but I had a good day skiing at Breck with my youngest son.
