Anybody up for something Sat 1/12?

I haven't been in altitude in a while...anyone up for something this Sat? Broncos game at 2:30p and I'd like to make it to a bar for it afterwards. I'm open to 14ers, 13ers....12ers!

Hey - been a while since Silverheels :)

Anyway since everything takes forever in winter I'd be down for a super early start...
Winter only :) Cycling only March-late October... Mountaineering = awesome cross-training

ah, yes...the epic Silverheels trip. I still laugh about that whiteout up top! How did that monster weekend go for you a couple weeks ago?

maybe peak 1 by Frisco, or continue on 14er list which would be Columbia or Oxford.

I was thinking about hitting Silver Plume Mountain on Saturday, (12,457'); about 6 miles and 3400' gain just outside, well, Silver Plume.

Hey I've been looking for a climbing buddy on Saturday as well... Anybody up for Yale? Standard route has a low northeast aspect so avi danger should be minimized if the storm system moves in Friday...

Belford was good earlier this week--MO Gulch trailhead was pretty easy to reach a few days ago. If we did something in the Sahwatch we could easily head to the Eddyline or Coyote Cantina in BV and watch the Ravens get stomped after the hike.

For something near Frisco: Decalibron is tough to reach (plan on +6 miles to your day if you try for Kite Lake TH, unless you have a really high clearance 4WD), but Cameron/Lincoln/Bross had almost no snow as of Sunday. Grays/Torrey's might be a bit closer to Frisco if that's your starting point though... Lemme know!

For multiple choice:

In the Sawatch range pretty much every 14er is fine as far as avy danger is concerned as long as you approach from the right direction...
Quick acces ones (no super slogs) are Elbert, La plata, Yale, Oxford/Belford (I don't know about Shavano/Tab trail access but once you're there you'd be fine). The Champion group would also be cool if paved road walking doesn't bother anyone. (I don't know about quick trips though - 13ers can take forever in winter *experience of Rinker's NE ridge in February 8) ). Anything close to 24 or Independance Pass is climbable in all likelihood. More road-walking options include Missouri, Iowa, Emerald, Antero and Huron.

For Bross, Lincoln, Democrat - I would recommend starting at the Montomery resovoir trailhead. I was there this weekend climbing North Star and nothing but a little snowshoeing is in the way of getting to Lincoln's east ridge so really we'd have a little extra vertical but its better than miles on a road.

Also - Sherman/Sheridan/Dyer would be quickies (usually Iowa gulch is fine), I don't know 100% on the Pacific group but the east ridge on Pacific looks promising. Grays/Torryes present some avoidable avy danger - Bierstadt/Squaretop/Argentine/Edwards would be pretty boring.

I'm sure I didn't cover everything but I know we want to keep it short enough for the game so...
I'd personally like Yale, Elbert, Ox/Belford, or Decalibron (via Lincoln't east ridge from Montgomery). Let me know what you guys think... (quickest summit would likely be Lincoln, Belford, or Elbert)

*And if the weather gets interesting Decalibron from Montgomery could be a real adventure... (forbins I know you're not a weather wimp)

I am interested in something this saturday 1/12, ideally a 14er. Has anyone in this thread made any firm commitments yet?

Please be smart. NOAA has issued a weather watch for Sawatch and Elk mountains. Two feet of snow possible with subzero temps and frostbite warnings.
Just remember....there is a fine line between adventure and stupidity
